A Few Good Things – Volume 1

Many years ago, I did a weekly blog post called Five Good Things. Each week, I’d post five things I ran across that I liked. Sometimes it would be a movie trailer, or a random internet article. Other times it would be a music video or a few thoughts on a video game. I thought I’d bring this back, but without the limitations of selecting “five” things.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter

A few years ago, I began watching Leverage and really fell in love with the show. I appreciated the 80s throwback stories with a villain of the week and nothing too overly complex. My enjoyment of Leverage led me to explore the other shows in the Electric Now catalog, including The Librarians starring Noah Wylie. While I’ve never been a huge fan of magic, there is something about The Librarians that has just enough camp to make for an enjoyable watch.

I haven’t made it very far into the original series, but a sequel series launched this weekend on TNT, and I checked out the pilot episode. It was pretty good. It looks better than the old show yet still contained the charm and fun-loving characters. I do miss the original cast, but the new cast grew on me as the episode progressed, and I’ll be interested in seeing where it goes. I doubt I’ll watch weekly, but I’ll check in from time-to-time when I need something to throw on much like how I watch the original series.

Conan The Barbarian – Free Comic Book Day

I missed Free Comic Book Day this year but still had plans to pick up a copy of Conan the Barbarian, especially since the story was garnering rave reviews. The author, Jim Zub, stopped by the subreddit to mention the comic bookshop he was signing at on Free Comic Book Day had extra signed copies, so I ordered a copy, and I’m excited to add it to my collection. I love the cover art, and the signature just makes it that much better.

Vampirella

I may dive into this deep in a full-length post, but I finally read my first Vampirella book. I’ll be honest, I’ve had no interest in the character, and quite frankly, I’m amazed she’s remained in publication as long as she has, but Christopher Priest, one of my favorite writers, is currently writing Vampirella, so I decided to give it a shot. To my surprise, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I’m only one issue in, but I am interested in seeing more. Much like Conan, the character has more depth than I expected.

A New Air Fryer

I bought an air fryer a decade ago and came away unimpressed. After a few months of it taking up space on my counter, I donated it.

Maybe four years ago, we purchased an air fryer attachment for our Instant Pot to crisp up frozen fries and warm up the occasional piece of food. It’s a bit small but has gotten the job done quite well for what we needed.

Then I discovered the Flexible Dieting channel and his videos on air frying. He put all sorts of meats and fish in the air fryer, and they came out looking great. I was skeptical, but we dropped a small piece of salmon in one night and wow did it turn out amazing. We began experimenting more with chicken, but the lack of space was a problem.

So, I started looking into a dedicated air fryer and thanks to the recommendation from the Flexible Dieting channel, I ended up with an Instant Vortex that was immediately put into use and wow it has been a wonderful decision. It has cut down on cooking time and the wide tray has made it so much easier to cook enough for the both of us. It’s only been a few days, but it has been a great purchase.
