The James Bond Video Game Songs
Recently, IOI revealed the first cinematic trailer for the new upcoming James Bond video game. Having been a die-hard James Bond fan since the release of the film Goldeneye, and a video game fan since the release of The World is Not Enough, I am very excited to see what they do with the property.
One question that looms is how will they handle the theme song. It’s not discussed nearly as often as it should be, but the James Bond video games have had some fantastic songs created specifically for the games. Mya, who was also featured as a character in the game Everything or Nothing performed the title song for that game and its probably in my top ten James Bond songs.
Joss Stone, whose voice seemed destined for a Bond film, performed I’ll Take It All from Bloodstone, the 2010 Daniel Craig game by defunct studio Bizarre Creations, known for their work on Project Gotham Racing. Like Mya, Joss Stone’s likeness was also featured in the game and I consider her song one of my favorites of the franchise.
What made these two games special is they were original stories that played out like movies. Released in 2004, Everything or Nothing was the final performance of Pierce Brosnan as James Bond (and John Cleese as Q), and I wish it was held in higher esteem.
Also released the same year as Bloodstone, was Goldeneye 007, a reimagining of the hit Nintendo 64 game Goldeneye. While not as critically beloved as Goldeneye, I found Goldeneye 007 to be a fantastic game that made good use of the Wii motes and featured a darker take on the Goldeneye story that was fitting on the then current James Bond, Daniel Craig. The soundtrack featured some catchy songs, and also a cover of Tina Turner’s Goldeneye, this time performed by Nicole Scherzinger.
I’m hoping IOI will put together another fantastic opening theme for their game, First Light in 2026.
