A Few Good Things – Vol. 14

Phillip Rivers

I can’t say I was a Phillip Rivers fan, nor am I a Colts fan (although I have been rooting for them and comeback kid Daniel Jones this year) but having grandfather Phillip Rivers come out of retirement at the age of forty-four makes me want to see the Colts win the Super Bowl. Odds are this will be a disaster of epic proportions, but there is a slimmer of a chance this is a Disney movie moment.

NASCAR Anti-Trust Trial

Yea, I bet you didn’t have this one on your bingo card of what I would call a good thing this week. Hell, neither did I. I’ve spent more time reading recaps of this trial this week, then I’ve watched NASCAR the last ten years. Ha!

For those who don’t know, a couple of race teams, including one owned by Michael Jordan are suing NASCAR for being a monopoly. So… it’s a bunch of billionaires fighting other billionaires for money, but it makes for a guilty read just to see how petty and crummy all of the individuals involved are. Odds are the fans lose out, no matter the outcome which is a shame, since stock car racing is already circling the drain.

But, it makes for a fun way to pass some time at work, so I’m all for it!

Henry Shukman

A buddy of mine introduced me to The Way app earlier this year, and I really liked it. I haven’t been meditating the last few months, but I ran across Henry Shukman meditating on YouTube and I’ve been slowly getting back into it. I’ve also listened to a couple of podcasts with him this week, and I think its time to pay for The Way app. Next to Ajahn Brahm, I’m not sure if I’ve heard another teach explain things in such a digestible way.

Yoga with Kassandra

Not only have I been meditating, but I also began practicing yoga again. My plantar fasciitis is finally healed (that took about six months) so I’m feeling confident to start putting more pressure on it and stretching it. I’m taking it slow right now, but I need to ease back into yoga and working out, so slow is good. It’s about progress, not perfection.

The Fall of Civilizations

This is my busy time of year at work, and since I’m drowning in paperwork I’ve needed some audio distractions to keep me from going insane in my loud office. I listened to a few Fall of Civilizations podcasts this week, and its been wonderful. Last year, I listened to the first episode about the Roman Empire, and I found the podcast soothing and well researched. So far, my experience with the other episodes have been the same.

Nitter (XCancel)

Let’s face it, Blue Sky and Mastodon are never going to replace X. It’s not a matter of quality or even community, it’s about numbers. X just has the numbers, and that’s why major corporations and anyone looking to get a word out is on X.

Occasionally, I find myself needing to see something on X, and its been impossible to do so without an account. Well, luckily Nitter is back, and I discovered that if you add the word cancel behind x in the URL, it’ll redirect to Nitter quickly. For example: xcancel.com/profile.

It’s not something I use daily, but it’s already been helpful a couple of times this week.
