A Few Good Things – Vol. 18
Jessie Punch and IndyCar’s YouTube Channel
I would describe myself as a casual IndyCar fan. I watch bits and pieces of most of the races, and occasionally a full race, but it’s not something I obsess over. However, this year, Indy Car has really stepped up in how it presents pre and post-race coverage on YouTube and it’s made a significant impact on how interested I am in the sport. The addition of Jessie Punch, daughter of famed NASCAR/racing reporter Dr. Jerry Punch is a breath of fresh year. She brings an understanding of how YouTube works to her presentations while presenting information in a professional and coherent manner. It truly is a step in the right direction into attracting younger fans, something all major sport leagues (especially auto racing) are struggling with.
I appreciate the various highlight reels IndyCar puts together, along with uploads of the complete race. Keep it up IndyCar.
Starship Troopers Ultimate Bug War
I have a feeling I’ll have more to say on this in the near future, but this week a new Starship Troopers game was released. For $20, I’ve been blown away by how good the game is. It’s interesting… it feels like the type of game that should have been released in 1997. The graphics and game play are dated, but along with minor conveniences (push to run, slide). The game is presented with some fantastic live action cut scenes and commercials as a training video game released as to get young children interested in joining the Federation. It’s totally in tone with the satire of the film and it feels like an extension of it.
To top it all off, the game is actually a lot of fun! Starship Troopers is an excellent franchise for video games, and I played well over a hundred hours of Starship Troopers Extermination a year or so ago, and still play it on occasion.
I’m doing my part, are you?
The Return of Firefly? Maybe…
I’m a huge fan of Firefly and I’ve been waiting for a revival for twenty years now. I’ve read almost al of the comics and books, and watched the series a dozen times. I saw Serenity opening day, and have caught it in theaters several times since. So, to hear an animated show may be on the horizon does excite me, but the lack of a streaming service concerns me greatly. I honestly wish it could be fan funded and not deal with studio interference and whatnot, but I guess we’ll see what happens.

I was really hyped for the mobile game a while back, but that was never released. I learned after that not to hold my breath when it comes to Firefly and consider me cautiously optimistic this animated show ever releases.
Mad Cave’s Flash Gordon Comics
I honestly don’t know much about Flash Gordon. I knew there was a movie from 1980, and that he was an old comic strip character who starred in a bunch of serials. I know Flash inspired Star Wars, but that was about all I could tell you about the character.

I’ve been fascinated with the amazing artwork of the new Flash Gordon series by Mad Cave, and finally decided to give it a shot. WOW is it good. I pretty much tore through the entire series in three days.
I should also point out, Mad Cave has the best deal in comics in my opinion. You can subscribe to a series for $25, and they will send you the digital comic each week that it is released, and then you also get a trade paperback mailed to you once the series finishes up. You really can’t beat that.
