Things I’m Looking Forward To
I’ll admit, these last couple of years have not gone quite how I expected them to. Between bouncing between jobs, the price of living increasing, and mental health issues things just haven’t gone swimmingly. It’s easy to look at my bank account and then look at things I want to do and feel depressed, but it’s not all bad. I thought I’d look at few things I’m excited about that’s coming up.
Pop Culture:
Nautilus (June 29th)
This new series look interesting. It’s based on Jules Verne’s work, and looks like they really lean into the fun.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3+4 (July 11th)
I honestly did not think we’d see another Tony Hawk Pro Skater game. Despite selling well and being a critical success, Activision immediately reassigned Vicarious Visions, the team behind Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2, elsewhere within the company. Then there was silence. When Microsoft purchased Activision, I swore I wouldn’t complain about it if we got another Tony Hawk game, and well… we’re getting another Tony Hawk game. Ha!
Superman (July 11th)
I’ve developed a love for the Superman character these past few years, and I’m excited to see him back on the big screen with James Gunn behind the camera. Sure, I’m worried there are too many characters, and I’m concerned the film might lean into the goofier side of Superman, but maybe that’s not a bad thing. I really hope this film is as great as I think it will be.
Robocop: Unfinished Business (July 17th)
One of my favorite games this generation plays like a game from two generations ago, and that is Robocop: Rogue City. The game really shouldn’t have worked as well as it did. It’s slow moving, has a dated design, and is obviously not a AAA production, but man was it fun. It felt like the first film, and Peter Weller was excellent returning to the character. I’m really glad the game did well enough to get some additional content.
Batman vs. Deadpool (September)
The first DC/Marvel Crossover in a couple of decades is coming this fall, Batman/Deadpool. The DC issue will be written by Grant Morrison and be drawn by Dan Mora, my favorite artist. The Marvel issue will be written by Zeb Wells and drawn by Greg Capullo. It should make for a very fun event.
Terminator 2D: No Fate (September 5th)
There has been a resurgence of 2D arcade style side scrolling adventures thanks to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge success a few years ago. One of the most exciting upcoming releases is Terminator 2D: No Fate. The game looks very well designed and I’m excited to see it being published by Reef, who also handled Terminator Resistance which was arguably the best thing to come out of the Terminator franchise since The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Personal Things:
Losing More Weight
I’m down around twenty pounds the past five months. Normally, I’d be disappointed with those numbers in this amount of time, but I’ve really cranked up my weightlifting and I can physically feel my muscles having grown. It’s hard to recompositing your body by cutting calories and lifting weights, since gaining muscle mass requires calories and cutting calories will hinder muscle growth, but overall, my body feels better and I’m making progress so I’m happy about it. I’m excited to see where I’ll be come December.
New Job
I’m refusing to settle at this point in my life, and that means I’m going to keep fighting until I get something worthwhile.
Yoga Gains
I wrote about how yoga has been benefiting me recently, and I’m excited to see how much I can improve.
Tai Chi/Kung Fu
I loved doing Tai Chi when I was younger, and I’ve had my eye on a school for over a decade now. They also teach Kung Fu out of this school, and I think I’m finally going to take the step to get involved. I’m not sure when I need my finances to balance out a bit, but it’s going to be soon.
